OUR HISTORY

KOEL is bringing a new approach and different meaning to walking with happiness. We’re still constantly  innovating, re-inventing and developing high-end kids’ shoes,

but we’re no longer just KOEL4KIDS. KOEL is now the mother-brand for babies, kids, women’s and men’s shoes, where the same values and goals prevail: outstanding fitting and quality. 

2006

KOEL4KIDS began as a Dutch children’s shoe brand, founded by Heidi van Eck and Vanessa Weismuller. They were looking for a new and refreshing concept and created high-quality, flexible and strikingly designed shoes that were a success for ten years in the Dutch and Belgian markets, being sold in the best children’s stores.

2016

KOEL4KIDS was bought by Liago, one of Europe’s leading children’s shoe factories, in a commercial partnership with Mr. Hanusch from Waalwijk, Netherlands, who studied at the Shoe Academie in Waalwijk and possessed extensive experience in developing lasts and soles for children. From that date onwards until today, KOEL4KIDS shoes have been exclusively designed and manufactured in Portugal by a creative team with vast knowledge and many years of experience in children’s footwear.

2018

KOEL4KIDS focused on Barefoot shoes, aiming to create not just the most comfortable, but also the healthiest and most sustainable shoes for kids to walk in. KOEL4KIDS has developed lasts and soles with different widths for even the smallest kids, and uses the most ecological and certified materials, such as certified bio leathers (bio lining materials, chrome-free linings, merino wool, vegan materials). Nowadays, KOEL4KIDS is one of the leading European producers of the best Barefoot shoes. 

2021

KOEL became the mother-brand of K4Babies, K4Kids, KWomen and KMen. It carried out a rebranding and reorganisation of the brand to respond to the growing interest of adult consumers in KOEL shoes. In the near future, KOEL will present Barefoot shoes for women, first, and then for men.

The quality of the materials used in KOEL shoes is undebatable! We use the best leathers, linings, rubber soles and all other shoe materials the market has to offer. Sometimes even the best materials are not good enough for us, so we develop better ones ourselves!
